Laser emits tunable blue light
A solid-state laser that offers practical output powers and a tuning range
of 425 to 489 nm is unveiled by researchers in Spain.

Just came across this article & thought that there might be some fellow laserists that would find this VERY INTERESTING ;) rob 8-)

That's quite impressive but what is even more impressive is that the tuned wavelength is single frequency.

Ha! I love that picture of the guy there. Normally researchers have that blank 'focused' look. But that guy clearly has a smile on him :)

And I would to if I was sitting there going 'blue , violet, blue, violet, blue, violet, blue, violet, etc.' ;D

Naw, he ain't smiling because of the beam colors, he's smiling because of the patent. He'll be smiling all the way to the bank.

BTW shouldn't this be in the other color laser section ?

The 'Other Colour' laser section is more about discussing lasers we can buy and stuff. Lasers related to our hobby.

This has nothing to do with our hobby, this is research. So it can be either here in General, which also seems to serve as 'Laser news' a lot these days, or it should be in the Science section.

I see

It's just a big OPO, these things already existed, even for the complete visible spectrum. These are always single-frequency too. I guess what they mean by 'practical output' is that this baby is enormously powerful or something.
