Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Holy smokes. Good thing I just got a new job. Subbing hard. As always I will remain cautiously optimistic to avoid weeks crying in the dark :P

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Thats really awsome. Is there a second source for these diodes, or is somebody willing to sell one of these 495nm diodes to me?

Vice versa, I will post a complete charakterisation including WL as a function of temperature and current and a measurement of the beam profile and beam divergence.

Look forward to hear from one of you.

As far as I know, only an ebay listing with 2 of them (from which I bought mine) has shown up from a reputable vendor.

Same here. I just started mine a month ago and I feel like I can actually be part of this community again instead of having to worry about selling my fingers so I can eat ramen in my apartment.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Exciting. We've gone so long without any new WL's diodes and now we have 505's, 473's and possibly 495's. Good stuff. :yh:

Seriously. We've had a period of pretty much nothing for like months it seemed like. Yeah, we had some high powered blues but for someone who is only really into this for wavelengths I wasn't posting very much. These rare and beautiful wavelengths finally coming to LPF is what is needed to bring the community back!

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

As soon as 488's come down in price, we'll have this portion of the spectrum completely fleshed out. 410-440nm, 535-635 ranges are all that remain for diodes. I can only see yellow diodes showing up for better lighting; if they come at all it'll be before 425's come out.

415nm to 440nm are already available. A diode rated for 50mW with selected wavelengths costs 300€. Its still expensive, but lets hope, that there will be some application for them soon. Especially in atomic physics and high precision spectroscopy theses diodes are already in use.

Check out TopGanLasers, they have the whole 420-460nm range ;) not as cheap as these sharp diodes but still reasonably priced.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Oh dang. I was not aware of this. Interesting... once I get what I have coming/already on hand built, I may look into a 420ish.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

IDK, as many of the 405nm diodes we have now are being pushed into the 420nm range. If you want something really new, I'd try 430nm as it seems to be totally void of any violet and seems to be a truly blue color.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

I'll keep that in mind. Might not be worth it if the color isn't too different from 405. Maybe I'll go hunt for 615nm diodes again. Last I saw them they were around a grand but needed a lot of cooling.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

At least CNI won't be going anywhere. Never know about these diodes...

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

Dr. Laser, how much is that 577 going to cost you?

So many wavelengths popping up at once.. Nice to see the green-blue gap being filled in so well after so long. Now we just need the green-red gap filled like this.

All I can say it's a four figure number.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

@Dr Laser

It's expensive, but you can be darn sure you're going to be the only one with a 577 pointer pretty much on this planet
