i have a dot the size of a dime at about 25ft. is that good? this is pretty tricky on my part, its really hard to tell when turning the lense does anything.

You probably aren't going to get any smaller than that. The CNIs have a very small beam diameter at aperture so you won't be able to get a super small dot over distance because of divergence.
