try cleaning the lens it looks like a piece of dust or something is on the lens

Thanks for the speedy reply.  
fyi, i moved the original post to "Tutorials, help & repairs".  

not sure how to clean it so i used flannel, cotton q-tip and alcohol?
i was able to get the lens itself out ot the mount to do the cleaning.
seemed to help some, but there still seems to be some light scattered around the main beam.

i know this is kinda old by now but take some flat black paint and put it on the rim/lip(whatever) of the lens. heres something that explains it:
