Quick Question about my ESD Wriststrap

Well, I have been using a wriststrap for discharging electricity for a couple years now, and I noticed a couple diodes and chips etc. weren't working, so I tested my wriststrap with my Fluke multimeter, and from the end with the banana connection and clip to the end that buttons onto the strap, there was no connection, I assumed that it was never put together correctly, cut open the wire, and there WAS a connection from the wire to the alligator clip. So.. I ordered three more wrist straps, and obviously I tested them to be sure, and NONE of them have any connection from button to clip, I am no Cyp, DTR, etc. with electronics, so please tell me if this is normal, and I'm still discharging my body static without any connection. Thank so much for your help!

I used my audible continuity segment on my Fluke 115 to determine said connection.

Check the range on your DMM, the strap end will have a ~1MOhm resistor in it.

Ahhh, touché Mr. Diachi! I feel like even more of an amateur now haha. So it has enough resistance that the DMM doesn't pick up continuity, but enough continuity to discharge static. And I assume the resistor is just in case there's an electric charge going through whatever you ground yourself to somehow, saving from an electric shock? Thank you Diachi!!

Yes, the 1M is for safety. 1M is PLENTY to discharge static, and also high enough to prevent dangerous currents if you touch something live.

Cyp bet me to it, but yeah, it'll prevent you from receiving a dangerous shock while still preventing static buildup/allowing a static charge to discharge.
