Quick 532nm fluorescence fun!

I was browsing through the forums one day & saw Justin from LG mentioned 532nm can cause fluorescence effects with a pink highlighter, so I gave it a try

yes it can. 561 does too. alot of greens/yellows are used for florescence in biomedical.

Haha I wasn't expecting it to change to a more yellowish color honestly. I thought it would just look dimmer or something

Anyway, it was pretty fun!

its fun to take 473 for a spin. it'll do it too. but much more brilliant to look at. alot of things floresce after about that yellow ish area. even 594 can flouresce a few things.

What can 473nm & 594nm fluoresce? I might have to give it a try!

594 won't likely be detectable by eye for most things. i'm talking on a tiny scale. but 473 will definitely flouresce papers and things.

I got a orange plastic to fluoresce under 473nm and 532nm , its not shown well on camera , but they both give off a fair bit of orange light , the 473nm was also good a fluorescing yellow jackets .

With 1.4W of green the orange light overpowered the green spot and lit the desk up

There are some dyes I have seen that will
fluoresce red under 532. Those would be a
good candidate for 594. 473 will fluoresce
lots of things.

Try shining a 450nm on neon green paper. It turns almost white. Also, 532nm on neon orange turns the green bright orange.

Mixing colors is beautiful.

Olive oil fluoresces a nice orange under 532nm.

I've never tried olive oil... Neat. I also do know that Coke floresces under an argon...

Well the olive oil trick got me in the kitchen. Had 2 grades to try out.

Dark oil made 532nm turn red

And light oil made 532nm turn "yellow"

Gotta find some of that dark oil!

Another neat thing is that if you point the beam "up" towards the oil-air interface you can see the internal reflection.
