I have a few questions about the "new style" 200 mW red laser that is now being sold by several companies.

1. Is the voltage regulated in the new model? Some members have reported being able to increase the voltage by a significant amount without blowing the diode. (I don't think the old model was regulated.)
2. Some members were also talking about replacing the original acrylic lens with a glass one. Has anyone done this successfully yet? It would be nice if this were possible, since there are several benefits to this (more output, slightly better beam specs and that glass lenses are more durable).

ixfd64;

The new laser can utilize several different lenses to provide a better beam...

or focus to a smaller point for better burning.

1. Glass 3-element 9mm lens assembly - Good

2. Aspheric-Glass single-element 9mm lens assembly - Better

3. Aspheric-Glass single-element 9mm lens assembly - Best
(AR coated for Red)

I would guess the power driver is the same.

The voltage is not regulated, I get higher output with 3,6V batts
