Question about lenses

I see some people here selling custom lenses.
Whats different about them ? How do they give more power??

Like the 405 g1 being advertised to give 28% more output. Is that even possible??!! lol

I also want to place an order for a diode better than the phr 803t
I assume next step up is 6x.
Whats THE BEST one? Can someone link it please.

The reason the lenses can boost the power output is because it lets more light through the lens instead of just reflecting it back. It does not actually create any extra light it just increases transmission.

If this is your first build i think you should try PHR first. Less expensive if you blow it.

I like the aixiz 405 lens, because you get a tighter beam with it compared to the 405-g-1 (less splash around the dot):

If I remember right, the aixiz plastic lens is 18% loss, the aixiz 405 lens is 12% loss, and the 405-g-1 is 8% loss.

I dont like the splash either (does anybody tho?) which is why i cant wait for IgorT to finish his medium lens testing so I can get my filthy hands on his lenses.

So if I stick that Aixiz lense in front of the phr803
Does the beam end up coming out nice and parallel ???

EDIT: hmm, i open the aixiz module and simply replace the lense??

Is the beam still parallel when it comes out or i need extra optics.

You just screw it in and out to focus the beam however you like.

Does the Aixiz module collimate the beam????
Or does "screwing it in or out" simply focus the laser as in change the angle at which the light comes out.

yes to both questions. If you unfocus your beam the angle changes(dot gets bigger) but when you have it completely focused to infinity its called a collimated beam.

FYI alot of this information can be found by searching around the forum. Some people will be annoyed by threads asking basic questions like this and you may get bashed for it.

I dont mind answering these kind of questions and I will help anytime I can, since I am rather new here I probably have more patience for this type of thing.
