Project complete, but issues?

I got my laser project together. Im not impressed power output. I built a 800mw laser pistol last week that seems way more powerful. I can light matches, and make the match stick smoke, but he can set the wood on fire and instantly light the match from 6 feet away.
Im worried about a few things, 1, if I over heated something soldering, 2, if Ive got a lense issue, and 3, If Im under powering it.
Im powering the laser with 3 AAA Advanced Lithium batteries. Ill provide some links to the seller of the module, driver, and lenses. And I'll say the provided driver board would not fit into the housing. I will also provide a link to the seller of the diode and goggles. And last but not least a picture of the beam splatter Im getting from the laser at a distance of 10 feet.

Your dot looks weird. I see a straight single beam but it ends big on the door.

That almost looks like it is using the stock projector lens.

The seller recomends typical 1.2A @ 4.3V. To drive this diode at 1.2 to 1.5 watts. How many amps does 3AAA batteries have? Less amps than an 18650? Im at 4.5volts but I have no idea what kinda amps Im pushing.

Based on the picture in the first post it looks like your lens is ditrty or is the stock projector lens. Could you have gotten something on the lens. I am bassing this on the line that runs diaganally across the output. Also was the unit focused as tight as you could get it to go?

On another note if you are trying to burn stuff at distance you should really be looking at the 405 diodes. They are much less visibly bright but will burn much better specially at long distances with 1/4 the output power due to it being single mode giving it high power density.

The 445 will have an extremely visible beam but due to it being a multimode diode it has very week burning capabilities at distance.

That is the trade off you have to make. Do you want the beam to be very bright or do you want to burn stuff far away.

I really like that beam... Ive got the lense adjustment out as far as I can get it with out the spring poppin out. Ive looked as closely at the lense as I could and dont see any fingerprints or dust. The little lense module looks like its got another adjustment in but I thought this was set so Ive been afaraid to mess with it. Is there something I could damage by wiping the lense with a cotton hankerchief, or is there a danger of damaging the coating?

If it does not look dirty I would not clean it. Your picture may just be making it look worse than it is.

So did you buy it from this link you gave?

As I don't see mention of a driver with it. If not can you post a link to the listing?
Trying to figure out what driver you are using.:)

The link to the driver purchas is on the beginning post. But here let me get it for ya again, I just learned how to do this and I think its neat!!!

I missed that the driver was in it that combo. Ok that is a boost driver. If you are using 3XAAA's they may not be able to supply enough current. Can you only fit 3XAAA's in your host or could you get an 18650 in there? Or maybe a 14500 IMR AW cell would work for you.;)

Id make room if thats what will work. Im not familiar with the 14500 IMR AW. But those would bring up the amperage?

Yes. The battery can handle having more current pulled from it. See these they have a max discharge around 4.8A which is way more than enough for that unit.:)

Of course if you go with an 18650 you will get much longer run times between recharging but the 14500's work well if you have limited space.

Ok, that'll probably solve the power issue. I sure am worried about that beam splatter though. Isn't that robbing me of power?

Could be. You should contact Chuck over @ Aixiz and let him know this is what you are getting out of the lens. He would probably just send you a new one to resolve it. He is a great guy that takes care of his customers. Also can you take the lens out and get a picture of the raw output on the wall?
