Hey Articdude,
Here is how I got that effect.... using my normal fog machine ,I got the hose from my shop vac and put one end on the output from the fog machine and pumped the fog downward into the hematite slowly and the fog oozed out of the holes in the hematite structure. You could not even believe what I have done with this in the weeks since.

I've been thinking for sourcing huge piece of dry ice and throwing that in the lake on calm summer night and take some laser pictures with it... :p
 
I really do like this photo as it not only has the beams going through the gaps in the magnetic balls, but you have the reflection of them on the glass tabletop, also.
