OK, so I was using my C-mount 808 from my broken 589nm today, an the driver blew something! (one of those little yellow squares, a fuse perhaps?) wondering what it takes to power the the thing.

Guess:
808nm C-mount with FAC
Vin = 2V
current = 500mA?

what do you think? I don't have a benchtop power supply so I can't really tinker with it. any ideas? anyone have a driver that would go with this? I'd really like to get it up and running again.

My 2mW yellow draws 1.06A from the CR2, so they have a 1W diode. LM317 would work if you're feeling cheap.

I should add in case you aren't aware: they're all built the same, these low powered CNI yellows. The efficiencies vary from pointer to pointer so they're binned. Yours will also have a 1W diode.

Little yellow thing? Sounds like a tantalum capacitor. They're notorious for exploding :p

Yeah, probably a tant. You may be able to replace the dead component, whatever it is. Got any pictures?

I figure as much. as its only a couple mW difference on very low efficiency. I just re-aligned my 671 (thread incoming on that in a bit). it was crazy multimode, and after removing the lens i noticed it had tons of shadow beams so I knew it was messy. seems quite a bit happier now :)

As for the tantalum capacitor, thanks! :beer: now I have to see what power it was. hopefully I can replace it. its in a few other pic, like my teardown. I'll just have to go look at it. its the one right on top by the switch in the corner.
