You know, since all the time I've been here I never really paid attention to the little buttons on the top of the page. So today I decided to click on one, which happened to be the members button, and I noticed there was a total of 620 pages showing all the people that were registered. Anyway, I clicked on the last page and looked at some of the accounts, and of course, since it was the last page, all of them had 0 posts. So I decided to click on on the previous page (619) but all the accounts still had 0 posts, so I decide to click on the previous page, then the next, and the next, and the next, and so on but all I saw was a $hitload of accounts with 0 posts.
Then I got a curiosity attack and I wondered at what page all the accounts with 0 posts started, so I went to page 1 and started to go up. I kept clicking, going up and up and to my surprise all the accounts with 0 posts started at page 113. I looked at the dates of some accounts. Holly $#it there were some that were about 1 year old. :o
I guess I'm getting you all pissed with all the details so here's my suggestion. Is there any way to put a deadline for people to start posting. Maybe 1 or 2 weeks, and if they don't post at least once, then their accounts get deleted. [smiley=evil.gif]
Because look, there's 620 pages which add up to 9291 users. Out of that number, 7616 haven't posted a single thing. There's 112 pages with people who have posted at least once, (not counting page 113 since 10 of the users there are exmembers, and 5 have 0 posts) that makes a total of only 1680 users.
So what do you guys think should be done? Oh, and sorry for the long post. :-[

maybe not a DONT POST AND UR OUT but something like, inactivity for over 3 months should be the deletion reason.....(u could create a thread like "im going on vacation for 5 months to arizona" to let everyone else know (and the mods))

but notice that those ones are spam usernames...all their names are alike and have 0 posts..

dont know about this but the mods should decide it

but i do agree with you

EDIT: also, what is done in some forums is a WELCOME / PRESENTATION thread, where new people (with 0 posts) MUST post and introduce themselves before posting anywhere else (they MUST do it coz other threads are not enabled until they do so)

Yeah I know, I only put up that title to draw attention. But it just seemed weird to me that 7616 people still had active accounts after being inactive for so long.

we shud blow torch their names off our screens. its easier than trying to delete 9000 accounts...

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but what about a butane lighter for better precision :P

I disagree with deleting inactive accounts.

I know lots of people who register accounts and use them, but never post. They find it quite annoying to see that cannot login.

Inactive accounts don't really have a negative impact on the well being of the forum.

thats what i was trying to say up there:

"maybe they take up negligible space so nothing is done to remove em.."

hehe yup. doesn't look like it though, unless you look very carefully.

hey guys, i haven't been removing the inactive accounts because it takes too much effort to manually remove all of them. also it doesn't impact the performance of the forum. these accounts take up very little space on the server. i would predict about 99% of the server disk space is attachments

yabb doesnt provide an easy way to delete inactive accounts but i am going to look into it because it would be a great feeling to clean this up even though it would probably not improve any speed on the forum

Interesting, but I don't know if it's worth the bother. Even the PHP forums I am envolved with don't bother with it. More important seems the ability to spam with only 0 posts. Maybe an idea to slow spam is more warranted then worrying about users that are not active.

No matter, the forum is a great place and even tho an occasional spam occurs,,, its nothing like the irc site and php board I dealt with. This place is cool and its basically more user friendly then any board or site I was managing.

Thnaks to c0ldshadow for managing to keep it on the up and up

well, a solution to 0 post spammers was what i proposed some posts before:

"also, what is done in some forums is a WELCOME / PRESENTATION thread, where new people (with 0 posts) MUST post and introduce themselves before posting anywhere else (they MUST do it coz other threads are not enabled until they do so)"
