$3000 to $4000 seems to be the right price range fora a 2000 S40 so $3500?? Maybe offer them $3200 see if they give a little off.
I don't understand the $4100 figure--sales tax is 7.5 % so on $3500 is 262.50 So $3762--What the other $400 for?
This one has the nice and expensive options of the day --leather, sunrook, heated seats , premium sound, etc and it is a small family business , local and capable of servicing it. If it appears to be a really nice shape---could very well be a nice car.
You didn't mention if they were going to give you a warranty-- but I think they have to give yo a 30 day or 1000 mile warrantee under the CA buy here pay here law. You have t be the judge. From the pictures of it i looks to be in good shape--pretty nice.
I think the 120,000 mile old Volvo is a better choice than the 162,000 Ascender.
The 5 owners in 15 years is not so bad ona 15 year old car, especially if the car was auctioned a few times.
You need to find out the cost of insurance to know the real cost involved in being able to have it.
Maybe have a 3rd party look it over if you have doubts.
It doesn't cost anything to look--so lookaround for what else might be possible with the $s you have available
Hey Encap!
The original price is $3,500 but the sale tax, along with other government costs brings it up to $4,100. Yeah, it's nice it has all the extra comfort
Pic of the engine is below. Looks like new:
