Definitely waterproof would be a plus for me. Pretty much all my small electronics WILL get wet at some point. :D Even though it is not rated as waterproof at all, my HTC Desire original has survived going swimming with me a couple times, minus the camera and flash LED lol.

Was just thinking about replacing it finally since it's old enough now that many apps won't work right or run very slowly. Had whittled the android phones down to either the HTC One or S4. Either that or a Windows Phone 8X or iPhone 5S. :D

EDIT: I did root my HTC Desire because of the crapware it came with. Would prefer not to do that in future for warranty reasons if possible.

I like the HTC One the s4 feels cheaply made to me.

I got a ONE SV they are still nice while not as awesome.
I rooted it. All my stuff works, besides you can use the temp un-root to use all those pesky apps (boom). Besides how cool is it to have you phone execute commands by sending it an SMS.

And I do believe you can just restore FULL nand backup, or use an OEM RUU should you take it back. And s-off to reset and modify the tampered flag...... I just would just raise hell if they would not fix my expensive phone; that works in the US most of the time
-Good luck!

I will be getting a waterproof case for the phone, but I doubt I'll use it that often.

Over the years, so far I have only had one phone die from being wet, and that was because it ended up in the ocean:p Others were fine after a night in rice.

About rooting/warranty, I think if it comes to that, I will be paying insurance, so if anything I'll just accidentally use it as a frisbee. Hopefully won't need to root it, and hopefully won't need to replace it at any point either. Though historically that hasn't been the case.

Ironically the phones I had to replace the most were blackberry. Had the screen die on one for no apparent reason. Had another just overheat randomly. Was driving on the highway, and my shirt pocket felt HOT all of a sudden. It was the BB. One thing I regret about blackberry going under, and not keeping up, is they did have really good product service. I had replacement phones in hand next day every time without exception.

Ped some of these techs here could care less it all depends who you get. Ruu all the way.

That's true, but your opening a can of worms, and they will be able to tell if you have done that as well, which will beg the question "why did you do that" , and they will investigate further.

These company's look for ANY way to get out of honoring a warranty repair, and your handing it too them on a plate.

I Read the S-OFF article when its appeared on XDA's , and I can guarantee you, HTC have as well, and I bet they have another way.

It's simply not worth all the hassle, Samsung yeah go for it, but NOT HTC , thier software is good, there's simply not much to gain from rooting.

Its just a windows phone which runs the crappy windows OS.

The camera not maketh the phone.

Hmm, Windows Phone version 8 OS? Not good? Was considering it, maybe not now...

Camera to me is about the least important thing, rarely use it. When my phone got wet, I was more annoyed to lose the LED than the camera. :p

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a camera with phone capabilities as an afterthought. So pass.

For me 99% of using the phone would be emails, texts, calls, internet. Yes I use the camera, but not much.

I did play with it a bit in store. Wasn't impressed.

Very interesting. I thought I could beat the system with that... good thing the ladies on the late shift are dumb as hell at my store

Good luck

Nice! Looking forward to a review. Unfortunately it's going to be a few weeks before I get mine. Shared plan, and I'm stuck with two iphone brainwashed people. So not helping with those phones.

Turns out black was out of stock so I ordered the silver/white one!
Pics to come soon!

I'm soooo ready to get rid of my old phone. VZ agreed to buy it back for $100. I guess that will be more satisfying that throwing it against a brick wall.

I've had my Galaxy S4 for three months now. I use the commuter otter box case and I have only dropped it twice, and both times were on the carpet as well. The phone works amazingly AND HAS A FREACKING AMAZING CAMERA OH YEAH I CAN SEE LIKE EVERYTHING MAN...anyways lol the HTC ONE has a bad camera...My best friend has the HTC ONE and it goes so loud that it hurts my ears, but the Galaxy S5 works just as well, except it doesn't hurt my ears CCCCC: The HTC One is cheaper though

**EDIT***
Oh hey sorry again, I also forgot about the gesture features on the Galaxy S4. I find all of them useful, but hard to find myself using them. This phone really requires you to take the time and love it. If you do not love using EVERY LTITLE feature all the time then this phone may not be for you. But definitely impresses your friends and makes you feel all warm inside.

I'm going with the HTC One, but I will be using it and abusing it first two weeks. Within that time I can switch to the samsung and only pay $35 penalty.

The sound on the camera is something I hope is possible to turn off. If not that's a minus.

Main reason for the HTC one takes the lead, is the speakers. The sound on it is better, and I do tend to actually use my phone as a phone.
