Im attempting to build my first green laser. I am using a plp520 diode with an acrylic lens and a 445ma driver, and the battery is a 3.7v nitecore. The battery is charged but all I get is a very dim green dot. Does anybody know what may be wrong?

I hope you mean the PLP520-B1 and not the PL520, 445mA will kill a PL520 but is ok for the PLP520-B1.

can you give us more info on your build? At first that sounds like you blew the diode but without proper info its hard to tell

I bought the diode already in the housing with the acrylic lens. I soldered the leads to the leads of the driver. I put the driver in the pill and soldered the ring and outer negative part of the driver

Specifically what driver are you using, that could also be the problem, can you post a link to the driver where you bought it, or post photos of it.

Yes. I am using that driver with one 3.7v 18650

Ok there is the problem, that is not a boost driver, you have to use 2 batteries. Either buy the extension tube: Battery Extension Tube- Black Anodized Aluminum or use a pair of 16340 batteries, try to get good quality batteries because the driver will drop out of regulation well before the batteries are fully discharged, that diode requires about 6.3-6.8V to operate. That driver can work with one battery with some diodes but not with the PLP520-B1.

I just tried two 3.7v batteries and its much better. Thank you for your help. Im going to get new batteries and a better lens then il post pictures of it.
