Please Help! New laser kit won't fire up. What am I doing wrong?

UPDATE- SOLVED: I am strongly fighting the urge to delete this post as I am a bit embarrassed. But I am only leaving it in the event someone else makes the same mistake.

I just got a new laser kit. It is a 4 mode 445nm 3-3.5W with a copper heat sink. It came with both 1 and 3 element lenses (currently equipped with the 1 element.) It also came with ultrafire 18650 5000mAh batteries which I fully charged on the included smart charger. (Yes I have already ordered some upgraded batteries). I removed the guts of the MS 900 flashlight, installed the laser module, and inserted the batteries as shown in the included diagram. Please tell me what I might be missing!

Thanks!

Here is what came in the kit:

This is the MX 900 Host

I removed the guts from the host:

Then I took the module:

And I dropped it in here:

I put the batteries in as described in the included drawing:

Assembled, it looks like this:

and NOTHING!

I had all these plans of sharing some mesmerizing pictures with you.

EDIT:

I did find this piece but don't know what it is. Maybe it provides the last little bit of distance to make this baby connect and work?!

Are the original LED/pill/driver still in there? Those need to be removed. The laser assembly is meant to replace the LED assembly.

I only took it apart down to that piece that says "lattice bright ver2.0." I sure hope that is supposed to come out though, because a piece just broke off after several attempts at reseating the laser assembly.

Yes that's the LED assembly Cyp was talking about, that isn't part of the laser, unscrew it and take it out and put it together properly and it should work.

I would also point out that the module appears to be sticking out the front of the heat sink, if I were you I would find an Allen wrench that fits that set screw in the copper heat sink and see if you can adjust that. Don't worry about that just now, it's has nothing to do with it not working.

Yep, I feel like a doof because I KNEW that. Work fried my brain today.

Anyways, it works, AND IT'S GLORIOUS!!!

I want to point it from here to a nearby mountain, as well as across the frozen sea for some cool first pics. Do you think it is reasonably safe to take my goggles off outside once the shot is set up, or should I not even risk it?

Thanks!

Yes take the goggles off outside, I even take mine off inside as long as there is no risk of an accident. The dot can be too bright to look at up close but the beam is always safe to look at as long at you don't point it at something that reflects it right back in your face. Also avoid any direct contact with the beam, once you get up to that power level it can really burn you.

Don't forget what I said about the module, I am concerned it isn't properly heat sinked the way it is and will heat too quickly.

Thanks! Does this seem more reasonable?

Yes that's an improvement, ideally the module should be level with the front of the heat sink. It will shorten your duty cycle some if not.
