ok well i cranked up the power to 300mw, after 10mins the case was warm (not hot) luke warm and the power had dropped to 285mw.

all i did was take a small peice of aluminium and rest it on top of the gold case and after a few mins it went up to 290mw and after 20mins its stayed there.

i will keep you posted.

cos the photos are taken on my n95 not my dslr.

i will be making a guide for getting these diodes out very soon

I got an N95 too, N95 FTW, is yours the 8gb model? Mine isn't but I got a 6gb microSD for it, wish I had the 128mb of ram though instead of my 64mb.

nope just the normal n95.

i do most of my pics on my n95. i only brake out the DLSR for special occasions ;)

i may even do the guide tonight

1 hour with those two aluminium blocks on top and 290mw and only slightly warm.

Damn, this is some great testing you're doing. If only someone would do the same thing with short open cans.

What current are you giving this? I just saw those on sale at Frys for pretty cheap.

Andy,
This is exactly why I like to use a TEC especially with open cans. The output will stay stable. I know you don't think a TEC is necessary but you really ought to consider giving one a try. Those Pioneer open cans are nice, I have extracted a few of them too and still have one I am using. Tough little buggers.. :)
