PCB Vise....

Hi BTG,
No biggie , no high jacking. Guys just go with it thats what makes the s forum great. The multitude of different ideas, there is always something to explore . Tools are cool it doesn't matter what you choose as long as it blows you hair back. Like the guy sitting in the chair in the Maxell commercial thats an old one.

Rich:)

Thanks buddy, I dindn't think that it was worth making a thread just for that bit of info.

I wish I had enough hair to blow back like that guy!

I am anxious to get the one I ordered as it seems to give one the ability to set the board up and access all parts without having to rearrange the the arms. Won't know for sure until it gets here, though. Hard to tell from photos and descriptions how it will perform. It looks like it has a chance of being a pretty good small board holder.

I think that holder you bought is going to turn out to be a pretty nice board holder, looks like you'll have complete access to both sides at all times. Be sure and let us know how it works out for you. :yh:

Thanks. That is my hope, anyway. Once I get it I'll take some photos and describe how well it does or doesn't work. :p

Great idea Rich :D

Not long ago i was searching around for a small, portable vice that i could mod to press diodes into 12mm modules without having to balance any items to line them up, something along the lines of what you posted above, with a 12mm round cut-out for a 12mm module to fit in and a cut-out on the other moving side for the 3.8/5.6&9mm pressed to fit in. Whoever created somthing like that im in for one. Saves me having to use my huge metal bench press in the workshop :D

J

Also PCB's would be great for reducing the risk of EMS :D

Hi J,
Sounds like a solid idea making build the much easier, like I said tools a cool and need here in our hobby . If it make it easier I'm in for it.

Rich:)

Just got tracking information my PCB holder is in San Francisco and is scheduled to get to me this Friday. Hope it arrives sooner. At least I hope they don't lose it again.

That would have been great when I was making my FM transmitter. Unfortunately it didn't work great but that was probably due to the poor solder I bought. I wonder if there is a size limit that you can use with the vice, because I can imagine it being an issue for bigger PCB boards.

My PCB holder just showed up, a day earlier than the tracking predicted. It is much nicer and heavier than I expected with the ability to hold boards as large as 20 cm or as small as our tiniest drivers. Because of its weight it will sit still while I can add wires and do whatever I need to and it locks down in any position I need it in. I will try to add photos later, but for the price, this looks like the best deal of all I have looked at.

That's good Paul, it's always nice for something that you bought online to be better than expected, hope you get a chance for a pic or two. :yh:

Thanks. I have been trying it out with some really small driver boards. It works much better than helping hands or any other ways I have tried to hold these tiny boards down to add wires to them. I'll have to take photos and load them to imgur. Then I will be able to post them here. :yh:

Sorry for the double post........

I got my "Pro's Kit" PCB holder which cost me $15.00 on eBay, but can also be had on Amazon for $12.00+. It is much larger and heavier than I expected and it is very solid in its ability to hold PCBs from the smallest to 20 cm x 14 cm.

Paul,
Great photos , looking good buddy worked out well for you and that's what counts. Now a days with all the choices it's hard to choose what's right for your purpose .

Rich:)
