i listed my dell xps m170 on craigslist for $300 few people emailed me for details so they can send me a check of some sort i think its all a scam but one person said that they will use paypal should i sell it to him/her through paypal or can they still scam me ???

the last time someone tried to scam me with paypal they entered a dispute and pp started the "investigation." the dispute was closed b/c pp saw that i had shipped the item and thats really all they seem to care about.

thats good to know, i was thinking that when they get the item they will try to dispute me and get a free laptop, ill just have them sign for it and tracking ect.....

As a buyer, I have had to provide proof of receipt by the seller of the returned item to win a claim.  Of course the scam was being worked in reverse.  An laser that was obviously dropped BEFORE packaging was sent anyway.  The seller was either hoping I would just accept it, or he was scamming the carrier through the insurance claiming they damaged it.

He has the unit back up on eBay (starting at $1) using my pictures to show the broken tube.  I guess he is hoping someone out there can re-blow a glass tube and then re-charge the gas.

Anything I ship worth over $30 gets sent "signature confirmation." EVERYTHING gets delivery confirmation. ;)

Peace,
dave

well the thing is that she says paypal i feel lil safe through paypal, but and i want 300 for the laptop and 200 for the new video card, so i said send me 500 plus shipping... i just got here email saying ok ill send u $700 idk sounds fishy but why would she offer to pay through paypal if it was a scam

then tell them you can only accept a cashiers check or a m.o. and that the payment has to clear before you ship.

I'd suggest not doing business with that person. craigslist is the scum of the internet unless you meet them in person.

When people offer to pay more than you ask, this is a for sure sign of they are trying to rip you off.

don't sell to them. you'd have better luck selling it on here or some other forum.

edit: forgot to say, I don't recommend ebay either. eBay the company is also pure evil scum. I recommend trying Facebook marketplace, iOffer, or forums to sell it. good luck.

Yeah you ever read the rules ?

Most scams involve one or more of the following:

* inquiry from someone far away, often in another country
* Western Union, Money Gram, cashier's check, money order, shipping, escrow service, or a "guarantee"
* inability or refusal to meet face-to-face before consummating transaction

Classic 419 scam, they send you $700 instead of $500. You send them $200 back, they cancel the original $700 payment and youre out $200 and possibly a laptop

EDIT: By cancel I mean a credit card chargeback or something

now she added me to here msn lol and she is from the UK

IIRC, craigslist goes by city, so why is she searching through your city's craigslist if she's in the UK?
