I like some of the Buddhist ideas, but Buddha kept saying "no soul", yet he espoused reincarnation exists. To me this can only mean that we are all part of a larger life, that souls aren't really separate individuals, although we function as such while here on Earth and I expect, for some distance beyond. From what I believe are honest and sincere NDE reports, some have tipped their toe into the collective spiritual pool and have come back to report we remain individual on the other side too. At least, from those reports, if you can give them credence, I gather we are indeed individuals who continue to exist after the death of the body, for how long and how far is my current question.
For myself, the concept of being part of One-life isn't difficult to see as the broader reality anymore, but once coming to see that, then individuality becomes the mystery. Perhaps we are the One-life exploring individuality and most of the mystery exists here, not on the other side. From that side; individuality extremely interesting to them due to having a strong sense of oneness, but from this side; spirituality very interesting to me due to a strong sense of separateness. Maybe the great amount of diversity human beings can have with such varied perspective drives the wheel of reincarnation forward, that the Oneness or all that is desires to experience more individuality, thus separates out a part of itself to be born into the world? Maybe after 10,000 lives we gain enlightenment, that enlightenment being: Don't go there no more, going towards oneness instead.
I'm not at all wanting to clash with religious dogmas in this thread, but because religion speaks of an afterlife, I cannot avoid it, that and opening yourself up in public with such ideas and wondering's is really asking for it, in such a cross section of society. Personally, I don't see the concept of an afterlife as necessarily religious in nature and instead as the framework which religion has drawn upon. Religion but a small slice of the pie cooked up as best we could to explain what awaits us. Some really love pie! Apple, Cherry, Rhubarb, Strawberry, Mud... All good but having their own flavors. I like strawberry with whipped cream on top, strawberry cheesecake my favorite but maybe that isn't really pie? I can see it coming now; "No, your favorite is fruit nut cake", which is a completely valid way of thinking from some perspectives
Cheers to the perspectives! It's what life is made of.
