That's because it's actually 50mW or around there, just listed as 1mW.
It's brilliant when you think about it.
You get to sell it as <5mW on ebay.
Ignorant people are amazed how your laser is stronger than other 1mW lasers (cleverly advertised as "brighter than expensive lasers" because expensive lasers actually are 1-5mW) and will likely buy more from you.
Well versed people such as us get a killer deal on 50mW greenie for $10 and free shipping in a cute host.
People in the middle won't buy it anyway and can't be disappointed.
I'm impressed, actually. I'd still punch the seller in the face for selling dangerious lasers as safe, but I'd do it while being impressed.

Ha ha, yeah. It just made me chuckle seeing it sold as a 1mw maximum in such a big host

it's not really a big host. i have one just like it. it's ~4.5". only fits one cr123

There are many lasers that I don't know how they are sold on ebay. Rick trent for example sales his in ebay stating that they have NO output. The only thing he sells are the parts to make a laser, well the parts need about 1 min of assembly in order to be compleately funcional (just screw in the module and place some batteries and you're done).
So he sells +3W lasers with no problem... go figure what are the real ebay policy on this type of listings.

Well I tried to buy a blank host of eBay the other day and the transaction failed with eBay stating they can't do the transaction as its a laser being sent it Australia.
