Hi everyone i got a osram plt5 488nm 60mw 5.6mm laser diode on the data sheet it says maximum rating of 150ma i dont want to work it at this max rating will 130ma be ok for the diode thanx.

Yes ... 130mA is fine...

Where did you manage to get a 488nm diode though?

Such an expensive diode for someone that seemingly doesn't know what they're doing...

Would you be so kind as to post the data sheet?

Hi diachi i have built lasers before and have been soldering since i was 10 years old and stuff its just this diode was expensive and i was just a bit nervous thats all i just want to get it right first time and not blow the diode.

Should be fine to go under the recommended max current. Can't imagine that ever being an issue.

You can go to 150mA if you want, that's just the maximum current for specified power/lifetime etc. Anything below that but above lasing threshold is also fine.

Re: Osram PLT5 488NM 60MW

For many here this is the holy grail of diode wavelengths. Note in the spec sheet Parameter: standard operating conditions refer to a CW output power Popt= 60 mW. Here the max operating current is rated at 100 mA and Vf= 7.5 volts. I'm not saying that you can't drive this diode at 140 mA. Just wanted to point this out. An amazing find! Good luck.
