Opening the Lens Of a Aixiz Module

What does opening up the lens of the Axiz module really do? Does it help power out put because more light can get through? Just wondering
Also off topic how do you get the blu NEW icon to be beside your post

Yes, it does allow a small amount more power to get through, and allows acrylic lenses to be used at higher powers. I once saw an acrylic lens with the back burned out due to the high powered diode behind it.. (it was an LPC-815).

Doing this is not all great, however, since in my experience removing the back of the lens assembly causes artifacts around the beam, more splatter, and slightly degraded beam quality. I've tried this with several lens assemblies and always get the same anomalies.

I noticed that too I have two lasers one the lens is opened up in the back and the other isent and the opened up one has stuff around it

Well the NEW icon is there , but I don't know how it got there but Im happy anyways

Yes normal, the back of a aixis plastik lensnut work as a aperture and cut every photon wich fit not the round hole in the back.
You have better beam quality because of the nice round beam but this cost you the cuted power in total output.
The normal beam character from the phr 803 is flat oval.

Ok Im trying to make sense or what you said Danjoo but its hard, I think I got the gist though. Your saying that the beam is better quality if you don't cut out the back but there is a loss of power since not all the light can get through.

The beam has better quality with stock uncut back. Because beam is rounder.

You get more power if you drill lensnut hole bigger.

i played around with them too. i only found a few % difference, less than 5%! it depends on the laserdiode though.. if it lases a wider beam, more gets cut off.
i will leave the back in the lens from now on. you cant see the tiny lost in power, but the dot is nicer.

if you want to get it out anyway: push the lens into the nut with a soft tool, like a plastic pen with paper in between. no scratches found. dont give up too early, it takes some force for the first push. later it inserts/extracts easier..
