Opened last weeks paper and BAM there I was!!

Tha't pretty insane that you just happened to find a 40 year old picture of yourself in the paper.
 
At the time I didn't think to get many shots with me in them. Could have handed one of my cameras to somebody and had a bunch of 'ego-shots' with my arm around some pretty incredible talents-- pretending like we was good freinds- HeHe- reality was -putting it mildly- I was awestruck- and totally blown away. Struggling(stupidly) between working the concert(photograher) and just having a great time and taking it all in. I am in front of Sebastian for the whole impromptu short set he did. So any shot taken from behind him has me at his feet. If you see the movie again albeit small I can be easily seen several times. The press pass thing came up only 8 days prior and I had already made full preps to go. Ticket(which I lost years later)food-tent etc.- Ended up in a rental Van parked in the preformers area between Richie Havens Bus and the 'VIP Lounge'---sorry to run on---oh those WERE the days!! John Sebastian I take it. He used to be in the Lovin' Spoonful. Then this was Saturday, August 16, 1969. Which one are you specifically? Where did you sleep? Where were you living at the time of Woodstock? What was the best and worst parts of Woodstock? How old were you at the time? Thanks.

It seems like a lot of hullabaloo over nothing. There were great musical acts there and 500,000 people didn't end up killing each other but it rained, it was muddy, 3 people died, hundreds were arrested, there were thousands of tons of trash left in the fields (did you have to help clean up?), barely any money was made because people just trampled the fences that surrounded the venue, the traffic jam was the worst seen in the US (could've been the world) at the time I believe, everyone was crowded, hungry, thirsty, tired, and tripping.

I had to do a report on the 1960's in middle school and concluded that Woodstock ushered out the 1960's and its lifestyle. The 60's were a time of turmoil and change.

Edit: I know I have more questions I just have to think of them. It would have been great to interview you for the project. I think I ended up getting an A anyway though.I just looked at your album and saw which one you were.

Did you do any filming?

I am looking at my lens -just to the left of JBs left knee. I had made plans in advance w/ three friends from NYC(where I was living for the summer doing an internship) 10 days before an offer came up to shoot the show so I abandoned my buddies and rode up there in an ordinary rental van(where I slept) with the writer who was covering the concert. Didnt have to wait in traffic--we got a pass. Worst? I guess the rain- but it was not that bad. Best? everything else. I was awestruck- and if I had a chance to do it over I would have done many things differently.---I was a senior at Kent State(22yrs old)--=========You would never say ' a lot of hullabaloo over nothing' if YOU had been there --trust me on that.--the rain was cooling and it did not last that long--I spent that time under the stage or in the van.--where did you get your facts about deaths -arrests and hundreds of tons of trash?? There has never been a gathering of that many people without some fatalities-accidents happen- christ== check out the soccer matches!!- as for the trash--the promoters did not supply ANY dumpsters-- and dont tell me YOU would have carried yours out. Hundreds of VOLUNTERS stayed behind for weeks and completely cleaned it all up.. show me where that ever happened before or since. A ton of money was made but not much by the two guys that put it on. WE had MUCH worse traffic during the evacuation in Texas from hurricanes. Some fences got pushed over but shortly after that the security folks just took them down and they announced that the show was now a free one.( I did have a ticket) most everyone shared what food and drink they had and the Hog Farm feed thousands. The venue got moved pretty much at the last moment so considering all- they did a good job. Anything happening in 1969 'ushered out the 1960's" I would think more folks were attracted to the hippy lifestyle AFTER Woodstock than the other way around.----------'60s -- turmoil and change' sure but not because of Woodstock. I shot 5 rolls of color and 10 of B/W. Some were published (I got 0$)in Rio's biggest newspaper but I never got to see that edition. THere is a shot somebody took of Janis Joplin with me sitting off behind her I think it is in my alblum-- I will download some of my pix whenever I can convert them to digital. thanks for your interest and feel free to PM me if you want more answers.
 
What would you change if you went back? Who made all the money? I am getting my facts from a book. It just has a bunch of random stories and facts in it. I saw the Janis Joplin shot. Was there a lot of traffic on the way out? There have people who went to woodstock and said it was a lot of hullabaloo over nothing. Your right though if I could go back in time and go to Woodstock, I would.

Edit: Just saw you had to leave early so traffic wouldn't be that bad.

"What would you change if you went back?"--I would try to be a better photog & TRY to keep my head a little clearer--- "Who made all the money?" --The filmmakers were not paid anythingh in advance and when the film was finished they were none too generouse with the $ they made, which is why some acts are not in the film-- they declined the offers to be in it----"I am getting my facts from a book. I saw the Janis Joplin shot"-----.(the knee in the bottom right corner of the Janis shot belongs to Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane-- "Was there a lot of traffic on the way out?"---not for me I was all alone going south to NYC----" There have people who went to woodstock and said it was a lot of hullabaloo over nothing. Cooool!!!! You would keep your head clearer? Were you using illegal substances? :tsk: (jk you don't have to answer that)
 
That's incredible. I guess people are revisiting that time because of the movie coming out today.

The "contract manager" person at my office listens to classical music, and seems like the most like "old guy" older gent I know. He was telling me stories about him and his buddies going to woodstock. the things you learn about people o.O
