Hi , I'm new at this and read some posts were some of you said that we must first read and then ask so we wont make double post about something, but i apologize and must open new thread because i'm lost :) .
Anyway i got this open can laser diode from hp dvd burner (i've tested it with one AA battery and it works) and i want to hook up with this driver

can you tell me how can i make focus lens's or laser collimator because i live in a country were you can't by a sh*t and can't order anything from outside of our country. So maybe this is stupid question but can i use 1$ laser (instead aixiz module) to use the lens and maybe the housing and put it in cpu cooler.

Thank you !
And sorry for my english.

well your driver diagram look all ok  You should also never "test" a diode from a battery directly... I'm afraid if you did that you possibly damaged your diode. As for your lens question I'm not sure about it you'd have to remove the old diode and try pressing your new one in. And you've picked the LM317 as your drivers ic so you'll need at least 7V for that red diode :D

What country is that? you would be able to order a single aixiz module easily, get one with a diode press tool for starters.

You can always test a laser with a straight across a battery, the only dangers are reverse polarity, and over current which is caused by the by the batteries voltage, but as long as you know the pin orientation and what Vf of the diode is, you can do it safely.

I'm from Macedonia and we cannot connect our paypal account with our credit card. however my question is can i use something like this
FJLHO8OX7XETVPKLB8.SMALL.jpg

or
Laser-pointer-danger.jpg

and put in something like this

I've hooked up the LD with driver and it worked well for 1-2 hour (in small intervals of 5-10 Sec for 5-10 times ) and suddenly the intensity has reduced for 10 times . Anybody knows what the problem is? When the laser diode has emited in full power it wasn't that hot , but now it's very hot no matter that the light is weak

To me that sounds like it LED'd...

Does the light from the diode look "grainy" still, like laser light?

If not, then it's dead probably due to COD, or catastrophic optical damage. The mirrors inside of the laser basically fry because there's too many photons...

Can't fix it, it's dead now unfortunately if the above is the case.

Or, the battery may be dead too, check the voltage.

i'm not using batteries , i'm using mobile charger but it was giving 8.6 V but the driver needs 7.2V so all in all i fried the diode :\ but it's giving laser light not some random light

the regulator can handle up to 30~40VDC input voltage IIRC so that isnt a issue.

Have you not taken the advice of getting and utilizing a a test load?
