yeah, that's about right...

during the development they were saying they were going to start off with a board that has no screens for $1200, then you can upgrade it one key at a time for $50-$100 per key.

I've been waiting for this for about 10 years now... when the first ones shipped in like jan of this year I was really surprised, I thought they'd never ship.
 
Those are incredible. You can even get one for $10 less at thinkgeek! :D
 
those have been out for a while, but with such a ridiculous price only those with tons of cash could afford to get one

that being said i'd be interested if they made a version with only a few OLED keys for say $100

The mini 3 has 3 buttons big ones I preordered that when they first talked about making them and got mine years ago.
 
Wow, that's awesome.But $50-$100 for a tiny screen... ::) ::) ::)
Anyway, cool......you can write SPASE on your spacebar without a laser :-/
 
Oh man, I can't wait for these things to become standard! They are so cool!

But I can just imagine all the pranks. Imagine a little virus like program that sits in your computer and every so often rearranges the keys for you. Or even funnier, having them change around in a comical fashion, so sometimes you have to chase keys across the keyboard :)

yeah, the optimus was being developed in 2005-2006....they said it'd be 200-400 dollars.....now its 1600 and its not as good as they say :(
 
Thinkgeek had it for $999 IIRC... at least thats what I saw.
Damn cool keyboard anyway, I first heard of it in '01.

they could rearange your keys so it would be something more like
D*CKFACESH!

It could be called the oled keyboard tourettes virus ::)
 
you know, the qwerty was invented to make people type slower in mechanical typing machines, because the letters would get stuck.

now with electronic keyboards the qwerty shouldnt even be around, but it's impossible to change it without everybody going crazy...


we could type so much faster :(
 
Smart people use dvorak... and sometimes make really strange typoes because of it.
It's simple to rearrange your keys. Just google dvorak, find a layout pic and start ripping keys off.
 
why do you need to be "smart" to use dvorak?

its already too late to change the layout i've been using all my life....
 
There are some great keyboard pranks out there. Most people I work with use the hunt & peck type typing. A good prank for those type of people is to switch the "m" and "n" keys around. ;D

You don't need to be smart at all... in fact, it's surprisingly easy to learn.

It's especially useful if you learned to hunt-and-peck in qwerty and can't break the habit... Dvorak is so intuitively suited to touch typing you basically can't hunt and peck. When I first learned to type it took me a good half a year to memorize the qwerty layout, then for 4 or 5 years I got proficient at hunting and pecking in qwerty till I was up to about 40wpm... Then, when I started to teach myself dvorak... within 2 weeks I had the layout memorized and within a month I was up to 40wpm. I now type 60wpm in dvorak and only 20-30 in qwerty. I type for about 8 hours a day in dvorak and never feel fatigue... If I'm forced to use qwerty for long periods my carpal tunnel acts up and my wrists and fingers hurt after 4 to 6 hours.

I'd suggest if you're going to try and learn it that you don't rearrange your keys, but instead print off a copy of the layout and leave it on your desk where you can refer to it. A: most keyboards have keys shaped specifically for their row and if you rearrange them it gets all bumpy and B: if you rely on the crutch of looking at your hands you'll learn a lot slower and you probably won't be as good a typist in the end.

I do that so much. I also change around Ctrl and Alt (keyboards at school have them the same size)
Also, swap the monitor cables on two adjacent computers.
