OD 4+ Is too much for a 200-300 mw red?

Hi to every one,
I´m new in this forum and this is my first post,

Just to u know, I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,

I already got some crapy lasers and after found this forum my interest in laser just grown a lot

Before i get any Hi power laser i want to buy a good protection...

My intention is to buy first a red burn laser, one of those:

I had look in to OD calculator, and for 300mw reduced to 1mw they recomend a 2,5 OD

I had found these goggles:

All of them are 4 OD goggles... here is my question: I still be able to see the dot? I will be able to see what i´m doing ?

Glad your buying eyewear for you first high-power laser. I don't think 4+ OD is to much, I've used my OD 7+ goggles with a 50mW green and it is very hard to see the dot, but it still works. That being said, the goggles I own are ment to be used for 445nm blue lasers but still work up to the 532nm green spectrum.

OD 4+ should be fine for a 200-400mW 635nm laser.

I would reccomend getting a second opinion (from someone who is more experienced) though as I have only been into the laser hobby for a year now.

Hi!

I think that for this red lasers that you have post, OD 4+ is enough.

Also, I think that is necesary that the googles fit well in the head and that block any small hole. It seems silly, but sometimes the glasses do not fit quite right, either because they are too large, and this cause that the light in between and eye damage is very probably.

A few tens of microwatts is still very visible, so OD 4 would be fine. With green lasers there is fluorescence that gives away the beam, red laser usually don't do that.

So i culd buy the goggle from laser2go that im gona be fine? he looks like solid and looks that gona fit well whith a good blocking out of the lenses...

Any one had references about the company (laser2go) and the goggles (Protection Glasses for 650nm Red Laser) ?

My only concern about that is the wavelength that this covers (632nm - 650 nm) some red´s are about a litle high then that... like the o-like ones: 650+/-10nm

There is no OD graph available, the goggles from laser2go are probably not even measured to have the OD they claim. If they work from 632-650nm there's a good chance they work a bit further. But you'd have to test the OD anyway. There is probably a review of the goggles here on the site, that should give an indication of how good they are.
I still recommend certified goggles, but that's probably not an option considering your budget.

I had done some researchs and dont find any reviews about the laser2go goggles ...

My next option would be from dragon laser ( Laser Glasses - Red laser beam protection 600-740nm :: Laser Safety :: Dragon Lasers ) about this goggles especific i do not find any reviews , but about the others goggles from dragon laser i found many people speaking good things.

For the Red laser whith that power i´m not interest in buy a OEM goggles, because the cost whith shiping gona reach $100 to $120... and then plus $80 +or- for the laser from o-like, but my eyes worth more then $120, i just do not want to waste money ...

When i look for a 1W+ blue or a Hi-Green I will definitely buy a realy good one ...

The dragon laser goggles have specs that are confirmed by measurements, I'd recommend them above cheap china stuff. The dragonlaser goggles are popular because people know what they buy is verified to be good, which is the whole point of safety. In a professional situation certification is what guarantees this, but not every laser hobbyist needs that.
