o-like does not sell green PEN. why?






this is the ONLY one..... :( .... only 50mw.... where are the 100... 120.. 150mw versions?
 
I don't understand much about lasers, but I'll give MY OPINION.
I think high powered lasers need better heat dissipation with a better host. Usually, pen style pens can't provide this heatsink quality. Well, that's what I think. If I'm completely wrong, please correct me.
 
So what if they do not sell higher power pens?

Buy a pen host from jayrob and 150mW module from o-like, and assemble your own pen laser. Much more fun! :)

Not that I even care about a high power pen, but I would tend to agree...

150mW pen is the higgest real power achieved from pen style host...
Because of the batteries.

Most AAA batts cannot provide over 800 mA with a nice lifespan.

150mW modules draw about 700-750 mA, and are therefore last up the power ladder that can be installed in a pen host.

Heatsinking is important for long periods of on-time.
You can use 150mW pen with short duty cycles, and when skypointing, outside is usually very cold so you can use it longer.

Personally, I like lasers that can be left on.
 
Pointers are fun, but to me if a laser is rated for 10,000 hours, I should be able to leave it on for 10,000 hours straight without worry. ;)

That's like saying the lifespan of my new car is 10 years
and the top speed is 120MPH...
I should be able to drive at 120MPH for 10 years non stop..:eek:

Jerry, your into electronics, shouldn't a solid state device be able to last it's rated life expectancy??

The car analogy is like comparing apples to motorboats.

A vehicle is a mechanical device with moving parts, parts that wear out and require maintenance.

A gas laser rated for X-number of hours can be left on for x-number of hours.

if a solid state laser is supposed to be so much better, then why should I not expect it to last it's rated lifespan under continual use.

Many people, myself included hardly ever turn off radios and televisions, yet these devices sit there on all the time without product failure anytime soon.

A lab laser operating at specification SHOULD be able to operate non stop without failure.....
.....Otherwise the sales information is a downright lie.

The car is rated at 10years Lifespan under NORMAL driving
conditions...

Basically.. it is the same thing as we are doing with 405nm Laser
Diodes...

As an Example...........

If we had the actual Specs for the LD in the PHR803T Sleds we
would be surprised to see that the 10,000 hour lifespan is rated
at a Max output power of perhaps 30-60mW (not 100% sure..
just going by the power levels achieved by other LDs that had
specs sheets). That is MAXIMUM allowed power... yet from all
the testing here we are able to push some of the PHR LDs up to
180mW... and a lifespan of only a few minutes to hours...

Heat damages/kills electronics... (just like mechanics) it is that simple...
amperage through semiconductor materials (Laser Die) creates heat...

The specs for the PHR LD could read:-

1) Max Output 40mW --- Lifespan 10,000 hrs
2) Max output 180mW -- Lifespan 00,001 hrs

As you can see... there are 2 criteria to consider nit just Lifespan..

On the other hand... If a manufacturer of a Laser guarantees a Max
Lifespan of 10,000 hrs at Continuous Duty Cycle... then you should be
able to get a new laser if it doesn't...IMO..:cool:

That's where we were not on the same page, I was talking about a purchased commercially manufactured lab laser, unmodified.

example - Aixiz lab laser, never turn the adjustment pot up, just use it right out of the box.
Chuck guarantees them for a year, So I should be able to plug it in the day it arrives, and not unplug it for a full year without a failure.

For machinery I know very well, I ride a Suzuki RM250 race bike, I sent the cylinder out to FMF motors for porting and polishing...

Long story short, this yields a substantial horsepower increase, faster throttle response and an overall adrenaline rush to ride.

However it also more than doubled the maintenance schedule of the whole machine, Drive components wear faster, chains stretch, tires go bald, you get the idea.

On the same note, I should be able to buy a Harley, bone stock, and keep it maintained and have it last longer than the payment book.

I have also seen and photographed bikes with that same Harley engine converted into a nitro burning monster fail in under 1/4 mile....

They used to before the site update change... but the reason it's gone is because no one was buying it... But there may be a chance that it could come back, if o-like is still getting the site updated.

OK... at what Duty Cycle does he guarantee the Labby at for a Year...:thinking:
At 100% duty cycle for 1 year non-stop... that is only 8,760 hrs...

and you would reach 10,000 hrs in 416 days...

BTW... last year I sold my 1982 Harley FXE... (that's 28 years) and it
was still running great.. (I had it for about 15 years)...
I've had a 1988 Softail for about 8 years now and it works just fine
after 22 years on the road.... BUT I don't run my Bikes full open 100%
of the time 24 hours a day...:na:
