NUBM44-v2 divergence at 3 meters

Does anyone have any pics or measurements of what size bar a NUBM44-v2 would produce at 3 meters using a standard lens like a G8 or G2. I’m not concerned with power loss at the lens. I’ve seen some other threads that deal with much longer distances and those show a massive spread.

I’m looking to put as much power as possible into a dot 3m away into a diameter of 1-5mm. Color doesn’t matter to me if there’s a better or lower/higher wattage diode with smaller divergence specs. You know those videos on wicked lasers (I know there’s no love for them here) of popping a ballon or lighting a match across the room? That’s essentially what I’m goin for.

I’d like to stay in the 3watt+ diode range so when this little project is over I can retask the diode into something useful like one of those cheap 2D laser engravers.

And.... make a hell of a better burner out of it when focused down to a spot too, RCB found that out when he first did so.

I assume a 445nm 7W using a G2 or G8 has a beam so wide at 100 ft that it cannot pop a black balloon? Has anyone tried?

Yes, hugely true, when collimated with such small diameter lenses, that diode has the worst divergence of any visible wavelength diode I've ever owned. You can however collimate the diode with a large diameter plano-convex lens which is several inches wide which can focus that diode output down to a small spot at that distance to burn. There are even better ways of getting a tiny spot at that distance to burn, but few want to use so many lenses to do so.

LPF member RedCowboy has the most experience with this diode being used to burn at distances.

If you want to pop balloons without a lot of optics work how about a BDR-209 and you can experiment with different focal length lenses, DTR sells the 209 diodes in copper modules and get a G2, G3 and G8 lens to work with.......be careful with the 405nm lasers, they are a lot stronger than they look so safety 1st.

Now you are making me want to build a 600mw 405 even more!
