NUBM0C 465nm 4.1W@rated, 5.9W@4A via G2 - 1.4X brighter than NUBM44@7W

A NUBM44 with a DTR G2 at 5 meters or 15 feet produces a thin line when focused that's 44mm long or about 1 3/4 inches long.

You can't compare divergence with a 3 element because it's focal length cuts the ends off the fast axis, you need to compare with a G2 which has a shorter focal length and captures all of the beam. What's the NUBM0C spot/bar length with a DTR G2 @ 5 meters ?

P.S. You need to be wearing your laser safety glasses to see it or measure the burn mark on a piece of wood, don't count the faint spherical aberration, just the hot part that leaves a mark on wood.

This needs to be done with the GBall can removed, also the spec sheet shows the divergence after the GBall can lens so it's pretty useless, I expect we can get them recapped from China, you can ask for some to be re-capped with an inert backfill.

I get paid tonight and will order a G-2 either from Zach BarnetteUnlimited or DTR. all i have is a 2-element and a G7 lens on hand as we speak. So it has to be G-2?
 
I have mine NUBM0C decanned. Yes the option is available for the NUBM07 and NUBM0C to be recapped but from my personal experience they die just as quickly recapped as they would if u removed it yourself. I guess it does protect it from dust but as far as what ever inert gases they say are inside the can before removal its going to carry that vulnerability. Kinda like how once u change ur watch battery and remove the back plate how its never truely water resistant from that point forward.
 
Your far field divergence will be better with a longer focal length lens but you lose part of your beam ( the ends ) because of clipping, I recently tested some NUBM44 V2 diodes and with a 3 element I get about 5200mw but with a G2 I get 7700mw and with a G8 I get 7300mw but with the 3 ele I get about a 25mm long bar/spot at 5 meters rather than a 44mm wide bar/spot at 5 meters with the G2 and with the G8 I get about a 28mm long bar/spot at 5 meters, needless to say I like the G8, here's a knife edge array I recently made with 4 x NDB7A75 with G8's doing just under 20w @ 4A
For testing the G2 is the only fair lens to use because of clipping and it's the lens to use before doing cylindrical lens correction, but as a stand alone it's not desirable for a good looking far field beam in most cases.

3E = 5200mw and 0.95 inch wide spot @ 5 meters
G2 = 7700mw and 1.75 inch wide spot @ 5 meters
G8 = 7300mw and 1.1 inch wide spot @ 5 meters

That knife edge is pretty badass.
 
Yes they are well worth the effort and a lot of fun to work with, also more horsepower really never gets old. :)
