Yep that was me and I just threw some monies your way through the power of PayPal.

I kept flipping the coin between the $160 Sony/AixiZ and the 115D/Meredith acrylic/FlexDrive and figured WTH. I am really looking forward to it.

I was gonna get the glass option, but would rather have the better focus of the plastic. Curious though...what does a 448mA one with glass put out?

Screwdriver, I'll tell you what... I already had a heatsink made, as well as a FlexDrive wired up. So I spent some time on your build.

I just finished it. And it turned out very nice! It is a 'twin' to my personal red burner!

I put a small dot of white paint to mark the 5' focal point.

* Pioneer 115D open can diode
* Meredith acrylic lens
* FlexDrive driver @ 448mA's
* Putting out a steady 257.3mW's

With a Meredith glass lens, you would see over 300mW's. Probably between 305mW's and 310mW's.

As a reminder, the FlexDrive builds use 2 X 3.0 volt Lithium primaries. Do not use the 3.6 volt batteries for this build!
Also, there is a 'split second' delay when you first turn it on....this is normal for this boost circuit.

It is an awesome combination!

Hey. How much would you charge for a spare Pioneer 115 diode? I'd like to have one in case anything ever happens to mine, and I'm not sure how well I can harvest diodes myself. Lol.

I received the laser pointer a while back when I was out of town. When I got back and tried it, the laser did not light. I assumed it was dead batteries and ordered the charger. The charger came the other day, When I charged the batteries and put them back in the pointer was on already and only shows a very dim light. Could it have burned out by getting turned on during transport.

were the batteries in there during shipment? it'd be common sense to ship the laser w/o batteries, I doubt jay had batteries in there for shipment, making it impossible for the laser to turn on during shipment.

I don't sell the diodes seperate...but I will rebuild my lasers at no charge. You just pay for parts and shipping.

Egor, this is possible but not likely. Because, as you saw, the bubble wrap is at least 1 1/2" past the tail switch, and taped tight around the host body.

I have had a battery go bad on me before, and thought it was the diode. I found that one of the batteries, although it showed full charge, and full voltage, did not allow current on a load. It would for a minute or so, and then would not. So it looked like a dead LD. but it was not! It was the battery. Must have been the protection circuit or something.

So first, please try a different set of batteries.

Now, if it is in fact the LD. I must first state that I have never recommended the 470mA setting. And that even at 420 mA's, the buyer knows that I do not guarantee that the diode won't die. I offer to rebuild the lasers at no charge. You just pay for parts and shipping.

I sent the laser on May 23, over a month ago. From CA to NY is 3 days shipping. This means you have had the laser for a month. But I am a fair guy, and want to help you out. I will offer what I think is reasonable...

In this case, if it turns out to be the LD, I will go ahead and eat the cost of a new LD, but you pay shipping both ways. I will also recommend changing the current to 420mA's using a 3 ohm resistor. This, I will do when I rebuild the laser.

But try the batteries first!

Grant, your build truned out very nice! It will be in Monday's mail...

As a reminder, this build is using the FlexDrive, the batteries must be the 3.0 volt Lithium primaries. Do not use the 3.6 volt batteries for this one...

Wish I had a video camera.....last night I started my Weber BBQ with the MXDL (put a black match tip on the coals for effect), also did the match trick and popped a balloon at 30' for the neighbors enjoyment. Maybe it's the thick air we have here in Los Angeles....but I am very impressed with how visible the beam is at night.

Your welcome! Good to know that it is performing well for you. You have the 'top notch' build there IMO. The Meredith acrylic lens with the FlexDrive option....My personal red burner is the exact same! Just watch the duty at that power...

The thing is, once the open can diode is removed from it's stock heatsink, it is vulnerable, and should be mounted into a module. You would be better off just buying a drive and trying the harvest. It is not too bad.

I would have to charge you the $37 dollars that it would cost me to get one from Meredith, and then the shipping to you. You would be better off just buying it direct from Meredith:

Woe... $25 bucks? They ship to me for $10 bucks. So, the total is $35. Or, $37 with the 5.6mm adapter. I just checked the shipping for a small item like that to the Netherlands... it's $3 bucks. Netherlands right?

If you want, I can send you one, I have a Meredith acrylic in my stock. Do you need the 5.6mm adapter?
