Yes it will burn wood easily. You will need to be sure and give the laser cool down periods while etching your wood though. Do not leave it on for 10 minutes while you do your art. It is very bad for the laser to do so.

just recieved my 1.2w laser this morning in the post, charged up the batteries for a few hours till fully charged, powered it up and all i can say that i was amazed of the brightness and the power of this thing, its the nuts, burns things instantly, got to buy some goggles tho, i dont wanna go blind, big thanks and respect to yobresal.

Just received mine, batteries now charging and excitement building.
According to the tracking information my laser is still at Customs even though I'm currently holding it in my hand, when I got the package it had a sticker on it saying that Royal Mail opened the package so Customs could examine it, and indeed the package has been opened. Fortunately they failed to actually spot that it was a laser, good old Royal Mail and UK Customs.
