Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

It appears that the charger that came with it is only showing a green steady light. Even with the CR123's are down to 4.1V. Is that considered low? Is it a "smart cahrger", will it not charge a depleted batt? As I used the laser quite a long time.
Any ideas? Tnx.

N3JQD;

I had similar confusion with my first Survival Laser (18650 battery, charger...)... Basically, I used my DMM "too much" and "expected too much precision".

If your battery (RCR123A or 18650 or whatever) is already at 4.1v, it is probably ABOVE the "threshold", and the charger light will stay green.

(And I don't know about these batteries / chargers... it might be possible to OVERCHARGE them, overheating, exploding, etc... when the charger reaches green, or stays green when you put a battery in, then it is probably best to STOP charging it. Also, for safety's sake, always SUPERVISE a charging cycle. Don't pop a battery into the charger and then take a nap or run out to the convenience store.)

From what limited experience I have so far, the battery has to be depleted below some threshold before the charger indicates that it is actually charging.

Use the laser a bit more... until it gets down to, say, 3.7 or 3.8 volts or so... THEN the charger should function.

It takes some practice.

I've actually had issues where a battery level was so low, the charger didn't recognize it. :( I tried a different charger (with leads and magnets) and it charged.

Re: 1.2 Watt Copper 445nm blue lasers $149 shipped

JBTexas pretty much hit the nail on the head. Those batteries are rated at 3.6v but will hold 4.2v on a full charge, its logical to assume that if you put a battery with 3.6v or more into the charger it'll probably see it as a fully charged battery, and the light will stay green.

Like others have said use caution when charging lithium based batteries, overcharging them can lead to an unexpected pyrotechnics display, which really isn't as pleasant as it sounds. :)

Like 98% of the handbuilt lasers sold here on the forum, it has a on-off clicky switch. This laser, specifically, has a reverse clicky tail switch. ;)
