It regulates current going to the diode.

Without a driver, the diode will try to draw as much current as it can.

And it will burn out as a result.

Lol? My a$$! None of us should need to explain, (but please thank Goninandbl00d). The information is here in many, many threads. Maybe a little time spent using the search box and google instead of waving your arms about haplessly would help. It's at the top of each page if you missed it. LPF truly likes to help those who help themselves.

I vacillate between trying to pass on the knowledge gained here and tiring of people who have enough posts but still clearly don't know the basics.

Drivers can be had for free in some cases and at the most 5 bucks from local stores.
