I just finished my first diode driver. I still am waiting for my 200mw 660nm laser diode but i tested it with an LED and it is working great. Just thought i would post on the forums with a picture of the finished driver...

I got all of this for around 10$ ish but i already had the wire and solder/soldering iron so not a bad price... going to put this all in an old Nerf Longshot with the diode powering when you pull the trigger...

great job for your first driver! i would cover the exposed leads on the diode and resistor with some heatshrink or tape to prevent shorts though.

Yeah im going to wrap it in electrical tape just havent gotten to it becuase i still need to buy another battery holder
 
did you follow DDL thread? on about the 3rd last page someone tells you how to build it on a strip board. thats was my first driver

i think ur capacitor is around the wrong way? the stripe is the negative side.

This is conflicting, for usually the positive pin is a bit longer :undecided:
 
hm ok on all og my electrolytic caps the stripe is negative.

I didnt feel like doing it on breadboard... I was thinking about it but I decided i have never used one and this is alot easier for me lol
 
Make sure you check the capacitor because reverse polarity can lead to the cap exploding. Also, make sure you short the leads that you will attach to the laser diode before you solder the diode on because the cap could still be charged from when you powered up the LED and it could zap the laser diode.
