Newby Laser Questions

Hello everyone,

I am in the market for my first laser pointer. I have narrowed my search down to the X50 from Nova Lasers. I have not owned or even seen a laser brighter than the cheapies you buy at the corner store. So im not sure at all what im getting myself into.

I would like to know how dangerous this laser will be to my or any one elses eyesight if it accidentally gets shined in someones eyes.

Also, can simply looking at the dot on the wall injure my eyes?

My uses for this laser will be, star pointing, general recreation / showing off and possible presentations.

Is this thing to bright for presentations? lol

WAY TOO POWERFUL FOR PRESENTATIONS!!!!!!!!!!
dont even think about accidently getting it into someones eyes, it could blind them!!!

You should be able to do everything you stated with it except it's too powerful for presentations, if you want to stay with that model and presentations are important, then you should get an additional Laser <5mw.

By the way, you made a good choice, Nova Lasers does sell good quality Lasers, you shouldn't have any problems with it.

The X-50 will be perfect for star pointing and showing off. 50mw is WAY TOO BRIGHT for presentations unless you are outside and pointing out things on houses and stuff. Looking at the dot on a wall 10 feet away probably isn't a smart thing to do. At 40 or more feet you should be safe. Be careful with it and don't hit people in the eye with it. At 50mw it can instantly cause damage.

I dont think the x-50 would be SUPER bright at a presentation. I mean, what if it is a fully lit office? If its in the dark and you're pointing at a projection screen or something, then yes that will be too bright. But, under full office light conditions I don't think it would be too bad.

Presentations are normally carried out on whiteboards and/or a screen for powerpoint presentations. In other words: crystal white surfaces. I consider my 20mW Opto already too bright for comfort, especially for the persons sitting front row, let alone a Nova 50mW.

Add the fact that shining your nifty powerful green laser, which very likely nobody in your audience has seen before, will attract attention. And will take their mind of your presentation. Not a good idea. A pointer is supposed to aid your presentation, not becoming a subject of interest/discussion itself.
