newbie hear and need help

hay im new to lasers im good at basit elecrtonic stuf but i need help with what the meaning of some thing are so hear we go.
on laysers what duse nm and wm mean and if you could tell me some basic stuf it would help. the reson i got into lasers is cus im a tinkerer when things brack i take it apart and take the good parts out so iv acierd ofer the years a few diodes about 10 i think
so i figuyre ima do stuf with them but i need the basics
