Hello everybody!

Chris here! I'm new to laser tech, but have some time for projects again and am
jumping in with both feet. Decided to build a engraver/cnc.

I found these two books which seemed a good place to start learning the dirty
details:

Haiyin Sun
A Practical Guide to Handling Laser Diode Beams (SpringerBriefs in Physics)
2nd Edition

Haiyin Sun
Laser Diode Beam Basics, Manipulations and Characterizations (SpringerBriefs in Physics)
2,012 Edition

And, I've picked up a IPG PLD-30-974 diode to start building around:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/322867615704

The fiber is cleaved and I know nothing about fiber repair, but am hoping it
might be an excuse to use some 200,000 grit diamond dust I have.

Once repaired, I'm guessing the head would consist of a collimator at the fiber
termination followed by a focusing lens?

any tips on finding high-wattage, optics? reinforcing the fiber?

Thanks!

I don't expect answers, just advice from those that feel like giving it.
I know I'm a new account, but I'm sure I'll end up posting something useful eventually. ;)

Hello anonymix

I am interested in seeing how your IPG laser diode works out and here you will find some very knowledgeable people, member diachi comes to mind.

It's the polite thing to say hello in the welcome section, we don't want a blood sample, just a simple hello thread, you can click the link below and use the " New Thread " tab to post a your hello, it only takes a moment.

And a fine hello to you too.

I don't know what kind of jackasses and scams you've had to deal with on this forum historically, but I've done nothing warranting such a violent invasion of my privacy.

You didn't even ask nicely.

What a way to make a guy feel welcome.

If you are going to build your own driver and lens system you could buy just the module, but in your hello thread you posted a link to decommissioned units, if you wanted a working system for your 1700 dollar range I would possibly go with this : https://optlasers.com/en/fiber-modules/211-25w-980nm-fiber-laser-modules.html

Also what is your purpose?

At what distance do you want to do work?

Wow I just got a case of deja vu

Good luck polishing the end of the cleaved fiber optic cable. You are REALLY going to need it.
