Hey everyone just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I'm new to the site and new to lasers for the most part. My name's Erie I'm 30yo and from Pennsylvania U.S. I've had a bunch of the 301 red, green, and purple lasers from ebay in the past, but I just recently bought my first blue laser that will actually burn stuff/engrave wood. I have no idea the power of it other than it seems pretty bright lol, I'll add some pics of it. I'm looking for any input as to whether or not this is a decent starter laser and where to go from here. Thanks. Btw I guess I should mention I got this with no batteries off ebay for 49.99. It came with 5 different caps but they seem to be plastic and I'm afraid they'll melt, the lens in the laser itself is glass though.

Cool! I just assumed the whole thing was brass, with a polish on the outside.

it looks like a gold paint or something, idk. welcome to the forum, you can mesure the current draw from the batteries so we can have a more accurate guess for your laser.

there are different wavelenghs and also higher power diodes than your laser that you can move but i suggest you the first step is to get a safety glasses if you don't already have, especially if you burning stuff as you said, you can't even see where you are aiming exactly and "blinding" yourself for some time.

Nice , I had one identical in the past.
It was a 3W-445nm, is it a 3W this too? I had replaced the default lens with a G-2.
The host is brass plated and is also nice heavy !!!!! mount 2x18650 3.7V Li-Ion Efest or Panasonic, the diode is a 9mm Japanese.

Know how to keep it! do not pull it to the maximum and especially ...

BOTH ALWAYS PROTECTIVE GOGGLES !!!!!

Welcome to the forum, you definitely have a decent starter laser there. If you wanna go upwards from it eventually, then I'd recommend you check out the products sold by Sanwu or Jetlasers.

That gold one looks like an O-Like 2W+and you must wear laser safety glasses that attenuate the wavelength that you are working with if over 5mw or you can seriously damage your eyes, the blue and purple lasers are a lot stronger than they appear because our eyes don't see blue/purple as well as green so you can't go by how bright they look.

I have no financial interest in this, I just hate to let anyone go blind when a warning could have helped, so here it is.

I have learned again and again that good tools are worth the money and these laser safety glasses are good quality at a good price.

Thanks for all the responses and welcomes. I appreciate the advice I already habe safety glasses, I wasn't expecting anywhere near as bright as it is for as cheap as it was and used it once before my glasses came and I couldn't see the blues they just looked gray on my tv for about a half hour afterwards. I definitely have glasses I'll never use it without them again lol
