New to having nice laser what to do with it

Its never safe unless the laser is under 5mW. What you are describing is called crowd scanning and while it is commonly done it is actually illegal and unsafe and not advisable.

Lot's of sight damage can indeed go unnoticed. That does not mean it cannot show later.

Anyway .. scanned lasers might be powerful, but it's not about power, but power density. And since the power is spread over larger are as the beam moves, the actual power density might not (should not) exceed 5mW. Professional scanners have for example safeguards which turn them off instantly in case scanning mechanism jams. But that is also for fire prevention, as such scanners of go in several watts range.

So as usual .. good professional device with educated operators should pose no danger. And there always be someone who does something stupid.

You could build a simple "lumia" projector with a piece of stippled clear glass or acrylic mounted to a very low rpm motor. Send the laser beam through the slowly moving optic and be amazed at the strange organic/animated scenery. You might vary the motor speed for curiosity's sake.

Careful with eye damaging reflections with that method. It's in the basic idea of the randominity that makes it very likely that you will get unpredictable scattered reflections and some can be of dangerous density.

Croud Scanning is a stupid idea with something of that power. Leaves yourself vulnerable for court cases.
