NEW STOCK: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Laser Host

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

Still waiting for an update... If these aren't going to happen, would you please let us know? I'd really like to put that money towards another laser if I wont be getting this one.

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

I'll update everyone in next couple of days who's orders are remaining, IIRC just one JAD order (Irishluck) and ProtoformX's complete laser is remaining, The 2.4A driver came faulty so it was causing problems, Please understand that this is time consuming work and things can go wrong , I appreciate your patience fellas it's just a glitch that we ran into..

IF the 2.4a driver came faulty is it going to give me problems with a new one? I ask this cause its a power driver, is it going to die quick or anything on me.
Should i just do a 2.2 or what.

Id like a driver with the laser that will last for a decent time and not die quick. So is the 2.4a driver going to be alright?

Keep in mind that I purchased the Nichia NDB7875 445nm 9mm from DTR.

Sure thing , SBA is one of the best builders arround here you dont have to worry about that.. He's already taken great precautions and thorough testing before sending anything out..

I have forwarded your concerns to him and he should give me the best option whichever is best, we'll go that route.. Sounds good?

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

What drivers are being used? (After the faulty/confinscated ones), are we using good quality drivers?

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

X-Drives and/or Blitzbuck depending on availability and desired current settings

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

Thanks for the update sinner. You can imagine our state of mind when we haven't had any updates for a couple of weeks. Personally I was starting to feel like my order had been forgotten!

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

I have received mine and I'm in contact with sinner / SBA to resolve my problems.

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

What problems?

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

ok so i dunno if i have problems or not im just not all that impressed. two brand new fully charged aw imr 18350 batteries and it appears weaker than my 1.6w m145.... put a single 18650 in it and the beam isnt even visible. i had trouble pressing my focus knob into the focus adapter so now it sits crooked... i dont like how loose and flaky the clicky is. and im a machinist so of course i notice machining imperfections like the sharp edge at the bottom of the host. the tailcap and body not being concentric. the large burr around the top edge of the 12mm diode module hole. the lack of countersink on the tripod mount threads (dont like the threads meeting the OD of the host). the lines that were not fully sanded off the outside although polished to a shine theres still visible lines.

most of that isnt noticeable to a person who doesnt work in manufacturing and im being very hypercritical there so ignore it please.

ill likely just sell the assembled laset as it is for $200 to recoup costs and move on to the next thing ^^

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

The 18650 will not be enough to power it, but idk about the 16340s. I sold Blaster a laser with some batteries that turned out to be crappy. They LPMd at 170mW, and with brand new ones the laser LPMd at over 270mW. OOh you say 18350s, maybe it needs 2x 16340s? ask SBA... As for the rest, maybe you got a bad one  Mine was perfect!

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

Im sorry you had to go through with such trouble, I really appreciate the details on the imprefections actually most people dont mention this stuff it would really help me improve the upcoming designs.. I dont have access to all of those swiss machinery that you mentioned the other day they would literally cost a fortune.. and the only machine that allows me to make hosts is the one they never use in the shop which is a manual, large lathe..

Maybe your expectations were so high there is no way i could have met them.. I dont like to dissapoint any one but if the laser diode ends up lower in power Im afraid there's not much i could have done!

Before selling it, there are still a few simple ways to correct this if you can isolate the problem.. If you can hook the diode to a bench PSU , and driver to testload ..would be a great idea to begin with!

Could be a diode issue. Wouldn't jump to blame the host and or JAD kit so quick. I prefer sharp crisp edges on host but that's just my likes. I can see how a machinist can critique someone's work having experience in doing it while the masses are happy with it. I don't have any lines or burrs in mine so you may have just received one that wasn't on par with the rest. It gives that individual host character IMHO. I would like to see the threads countersunk slightly into the host and not run right up to the host OD. Having never machined anything before I wouldn't know how hard that would even be. Overall this is an excellent host and I cant wait to get my 515nm. Good luck with yours!

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

oh ya like i said im being very hyper critical. my shop runs very expensive cnc machines and we put out some precision parts so im used to having to be very critical on my own work. it is a great host tho and im not blaming anyone for anything. like i said, im just not all that impressed with my end result so ill sell it and try again lol

Re: All Gone: The MS-Envy - 18650 Custom Host (Restocking)

Have these been shipped yet?
