I hope this will be a low beam divergence diode

It is.. if the datasheet is correct for the new diode, it has lower divergence than the 490nm GH04850B2G which itself has excellent beam characteristics. For outputting 1.6W at that low divergence is seriously impressive.

Schwing!! :)

Seems like the Vf is a bit higher than other 450nm diodes we have seen. I do wonder about those divergence specs as this must be a multi-mode diode. It should be easy to push it over 2 watts.
That's right, the sharp diode is often pushed higher than the datasheet,I found the divergence is very impressive with a 2w diode,If they are really good, I will choose it in my build instead of pltb450b

it is great sound,i hope so

These diodes seem to have good specs and I am looking to see some beam pics and measurements. Still waiting for the single mode 1W 450nm diodes that OSRAM is developing for the car industry!

That sounds great. I would love to see a 1 watt 450nm single mode laser diode too. I hope we will be able to get our hands on them once they are being produced.

Looks similar to Osram plt450b 1.6W
Which is multimode diode, however it’s similar to 488nm too. Confused here

I think that only looking at the beam. div. specs without knowing if it is a single or multi mode diode is not useful at all. Because the raw divergence of the diode has no relation to the final divergence when collimated with a lens.

Singlemode

Can you elaborate on that for me? After looking at the PLT450B raw divergence and comparing it to the 490nm diode divergence it seems that what you are saying must be true, though I have also noticed that diodes with horrible raw divergence figures (e.g. Mits P73) seem to have horrible collimated divergence as well. Is it just strictly single/multimode operation that defines the collimated result (meaning, for a given identical raw divergence on two multimode diodes, will they both have the same collimated divergence and if two single mode diodes had that same figure would the two single mode collimated outputs be the same as one another though far better than the multimode diodes, if that makes sense...)?

Also are the Sharp 490 diodes single mode or just excellent multimode divergence like the Osram 520nm diodes?

Yes,that's right, but i hope this diode is low divergence, Everything can happen when we have a sharp 638nm diode with a half divergence mitsubisi diode
edit: An example is the plp520-b1 multi-mode diode, we have the right to hope

Even though that 520nm diode is a multi-mode, it doesn't have a very wide emitter and it is limited to the amount of power one can get from it, much like a Sharp single mode diode. It would be nice to get those new 450nm single mode laser diodes rated for 1 watt, as they can likely be driven quite a bit higher than just 1 watt. I only hope that we will be able to get our hands on some and they won't be terribly expensive. Only time will tell.

A 2w 450 with similar beam specs to our 405's would be fun and look sharp in the night air, of course a beam expander will make some longer tests possible.
