why is my quotes failing?

NEW !!
- diode picture modified
- thanks for the info on the 39WDV !!!! never gonna power that thing again
am I luck to still have my sight? alto the pain i have... (scared to death atm)

Hello I'm new to these board and would like to share my current project with you all
All comments and suggesting are appreciated

LOOK AT PAGE 2 FOR MORE PICTURES

If the picture i attached is working you will see the diode i will be using
It was harvested from a PHILIPS x16 DVD R/RW
Oh yea.... in the PHILIPS I found 2 diodes !!!!
one of them has 39WDV printed on the side of the silver "case" of the diode
all i can see when i hook it up to a 3 volt battery is i faint red light...

the other diode tho is red and bight as the sun !!
any idea of whats wrong/normal about the 39WDV one?

I will use a Aixiz laser module
It will be placed in a Dorcy 1 WATT LED Pro
I will be using a 1/4 Watt 10 ohm resistor

does this sound good or am I making a misstake?'
(will add morepictures when im done)

this is the dorcy take apart next to the diods i harvested
anyone that want to ir doide for free??
aslong as u pay shipping its free
actully could it fit in a normal letter?
then it is totaly free

Re: New member saying hello

This philips drive was a dvd burner right?
DON'T EVER POWER THE 39WDV DIODE AGAIN WITHOUT PROPER EYE WEAR, that faint red light was infrared light, even though you could barely see it, it could've been 80mW of pure IR which could get you blind without you even noticing it until everything goes black. :o

yea it was a dvd burner
i also found a glass little thing in it that looks like a led or something ill get a picture up of it soon

omg :O I've looked into it several times ;o
I've had a pain in my right eye actully for 4 days
could that have something to do with it?

It is very likely that you have fried part of your retina by looking into the ir diode. Sorry to tell you this. Just be glad you didn't blind yourself.

Yeah I think looking into a high powered IR diode might have something to do with it. ::)
Honestly next time you try to do something new, I suggest you do more research on it so you don't harm yourself. For now just don't even go near the diode. You only have pain right, you don't see any strange patterns, or something that's not the color it's supposed to be, right?

Re: New member saying hello

Basically an Ir diode is every bit as harmful to your eye as a red/green/blue/other laser but since it doesn't appear very bright it doesn't trigger any of your eyes natural aversion responses.

The red laser diode should be safer as long as you don't look into it.

yea only pain no strange patterns or anything like that
I actully was at the eye doctor 1 day ago for a regular eye exam
would he have found if something was wrong ? cause he did alot of "tests" on my eyes with big machines

how bad is frying your retina :O

Depends on how much damage you did. Your brain can compensate for a small amount of damage and you may never notice anything other than some slight pain after doing the damage.

Re: New member saying hello

Still, just because you can see the red one, it doesn't mean your're safe, you never know when a reflection is going to catch you by surprise. You should get some 650nm protection goggles, if you want to make the IR diode into a laser too, then get some goggles for that too. I haven't even started to build my laser because I'm waiting for this one guy to get some red goggles so he can ship me a pair.
Anyway here's a group buy for safety goggles: ;)

phew ! thanks for the info and warning

I'm starting to love this forum ;] made thread like 10 min ago lol

Re: New member saying hello

Erm, apart from the fact it could permantly blind you, nothing much ;D ;D No seriously, youve done enough damage as it is, leave the IR diode, and use the red one atleast. if you ant to use the IR one, get some goggles that block IR, you dont wanna end up completely blind.. BTW a few of your quotes arent working...

dosent the R/RW mean it records read and rewritables? (burns) :O

Re: New member saying hello

i hope for your sake you don't lose your retina / eye / sight.
