New - looking for a decent red laser to burn and pop balloons

200mw is good enough to get the job done. Doesn't look like it is focusable but you can just use any type of magnifying lens to focus it to a pinpoint. Maybe 50' or so with a black/sharpied balloon and a VERY steady hand OR tripod. I don't know where you live but generally it should take between 2-4 weeks. Sometimes less.

To be a bit more realistic. I'd say you could pop balloons from 10-15 feet with a steady hand fairly easily

Good info. I'd really rather have one that I could focus, so I'd just have an inclusive unit.

What about this one?

that's true. to see what others say about lazerer go to the "companies" section of the forum, lotsa good info there.

A good burning laser - you want a single mode (DVD) diode, and optics you can focus. The optics are very important. For example, with a Meredith acrylic ($$$) lens I've popped balloons from ~50 feet away with < 200mW output. No way an AixiZ lens would have worked at that distance.

The lens determines (within reason) the spot size and energy density.
