New laserlands 510nm pointer pen

If they are anything like the 16340 units from laserlands, they will be very close to 5mW which is really nice for this wavelength and to use as an actual pointer.

I wish a US reseller would get some, I hate waiting weeks for stuff from China but I will buy some of these, they are a good deal and a cool diode.

The pen described in the OP might be the PLT5 510. They say it's driven at 280 mA which would make the output ~80 mW if it is. This is a case positive diode with a fairly high Vf, so with two AAA batteries they must be using a boost driver. I noticed the batteries go in backwards from most pens in this style. You wouldn't be able to use this diode and driver in another build unless you isolated the diode from the rest of the host. I would love to find out what the true optical power of this laser is. It could be a real deal on their website at ~$18.00.

Makes me wish I had an LPM, but I'm sure I will be able to tell if its much higher than 5mw.

You can get the Hyperion Cuprum from astralist for $75.00. Then, later if you want to read higher than 2 watts you can upgrade it for another $75.00 to one that reads 6 watts. BTW, please let me know if you can see the beam in a lit room. You should be able to if it is what I hope.

Give me a link to the Hyperion, and sure will do.

My 510 pen wont be here until late Jan - Early Feb

I'm too frugal to pay 24 dollars rapid shipping on a 20 dollar pen. :undecided:

I can also recommend the Hyperion Cuprum. For the price, it is fantastic for us mere hobbyists. For those interested, my laserlands "520nm" review unit is still kicking strong even after being adjusted to ~40mW out. (was near dead on 5mW when received) I can also say, mine looked 510 as well compared to an osram pl520? build I had going at the time to compare it too.

Good to know and it looks like RedC's is also still kicking after his pot mod too..:)
Glad you did mod it a bit as it felt like an heck of alot of host for just 5mw.
When I had mine I never thought to compare it to my PL520, not that it broke, I just gave it to a friend.

You should order another one from LaserLands website. They are cheaper there than on eBay. The link is www.laserlands.net
