So here's a link to my new laser I recently constructed: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sv2EZqteIhE
I bought the dorcy metal gear flashlight and a diode from senkat. Senkat recommended that I use a capacitor also so I put a 47uF electrolytic 16v capacitor in parallel with the diode to help with voltage spikes that may result from turning the thing on and off. As you can see, the match lights instantly once it enters the beam. In the dark areas of my room you can even see a faint red beam. All in all it was a very simple mod. I popped off the lens, de-soldered the light, soldered in my module with my diode and the cap, filled with sticky tack for support, and widened the hole in the lens unit to fit the module through.
***EDIT*** Fixed Link {SenKat}
