Hey guys, just thought I'd post that my burnind red laser just arrive today from DealExtreme, a whole one month later! yay lol I think it took about 3 weeks to come in stock, then about a week to arrive to me so I guess DX did an ok job, just there suppliers are a bit slow :P

Well, I just thought I'd make this thread, so when I go and collect it from my office tomorow morning I'll updating it and fill you all in on what it is like and things.

I'm hoping to start work on a driver build soon from one of the tutorials on here, I was wandering if someone could tell me if these componants are ok to run a red laser diode from a 16X DVD Bruner:

Breadboard

LM317 Adjustable voltage

5 OHM resistor

25 OHM pot

1BY001 diode

35 Volt 47MF capacitor

I have seen the values change on the thread for making the driver, so I went with the specs with the video on metacafe which is recommended on here.

So, yea another quick question is, is it expensive to set up a really basic like flat laser show thing, not moving or anything just to setup a flat beam and then move onto a moving one... just curiouse :)

next on my list is to buy some safety goggles before I start using it.

I would get a higher resistance pot, like 100 Ohm, those are called trimmers.

i don't know what that diode is, but i usually use one of the rectifier INs (IN4001)

lol and i hope you meant 47 micro farads(uF) and not 47 MEGA farads(MF).

And the flat laser thing you can do with mirrors, but the waves and portal take software.

thanks mate,

Yea I was getting a bit confused on the numbers, because in the meta cafe video it said one thing and on the forum it said another, thanks for clearing it up :)

and cheers for the info on the mirrors etc

Yeah i use a 100 ohm pot and put the resistance to the max to test it, if you get 25 Ohm too much current might be going into the diode when you power it up.

ok cheers guys, hopefully I can go out and buy the parts for it tomorow, and also get my laser but I've been so busy I havn't been able to collect it.

Do you mean a liquid sky effect? You can get lenses for those for 6.00$ from NovaLasers.

Do you think someone could help me here,

What is the wavelength of the DX red laser, because I am unsure on which safety goggles to get from wickedlasers, either the 590-650 or the 640-750.

Between the 2 choices I would recommend the 640nm-750nm googles..
The DX200 Red (Dilda) laser is between 650nm and 660nm... 8-)

ye the 400mW torch but for 230$ she told me.

part of an email from her

"Now we will push highest is 400mW ,but different appearance with 200mW . Now as we are on Chinese New Year Holiday ,so I willl send you photos of it in a week ,price is around $230"

It's worth anyways :p
