Luke, im interested in building a "pointer" with your driver, using 9mm 445 diode. How much would you sell one driver for?

Looks cool Luke!
I was also thinking about using this to drive a 9mm 445 diode at 2.20A. About how efficient would this be using a 32650 3.7V battery with a diode pull of 2.20A. What kind of ripple could I expect at 2.2A. With diodes pulling over 2A now a boost like this is really needed. Anyway I am really interested! Could you send me a pm with a price =)

I would guest 4-4.5A current from a single cell configuration. You will need to heatsink the battery too. :)

Working backward if the 9mm diode is pulling 2.2A @ 4.8V and Lukes driver is 85% efficient that poor 3.7V battery will have to pump out 12.4W. Thats like 3.36A! A FeiLong 32650 is physically massive though! About as thick as a D battery so I guess it will do a bit better with heat. Was hopping to get Ehgemus to make me a host like DTR has. That thing should deal with the heat well. Please correct me if I am wrong.

32650 Ehgemus RPL Host

That thing is just wicket!

All the best

Samsung and Panasonic 3000mAh+ batteries can handle much more current and not heat up ;) I use Samsung 3000mAh for my 445nm with my buck/boost that is drawing around 3A+ from the battery and it doesn't heat up. These batteries have some sort of great internal structure :D

Sorry for my absence during these days... i was on travel.
Now i'm giving all the answers to your PMs
I have tested my driver with diodes loads and output currents of about 3A.
Now i'm using it for my handheld with two laser diodes connected in series.
To reduce the output ripple i'm using an 8.2uH small inductor is series with the diodes. The ripple is reduced of about a factor of 5 and it's in the order of 20mA with an 1.8A output.

Nice. 20mA of ripple @ 1.8A with a buck/boost. Well if these go to sale shoot me a pm.
