New Blu-ray Lens: 405-G-2

I replied... Cam, it was answered right away, you just don't know what "AR Coating" is.... it stands for Anti Reflective Coating!!

(the design is well known in the lens industry, and is not patented)

Jay (or rob?),
You stated that the optical design of this lens is well-known already. I thought it was aspheric on the output side and slightly convex, but weird convex, on the "flat" side. Is there a standard name for this type of lens? Or is it just a standard design for collimating a point source?

It is an aspheric lens...

But there are many design shapes of aspheric lenses. It is the quality of the glass, and more importantly the shape of the lens. Plus the AR coating...

Here are the lens specs:

throw up some comparisons to the aixiz plastic lens i would be happy to know that:)

kool thanks jayrob, will opening the back of the lens like that improve the quality of the beam if using standard lens?

The beam will be plenty clean with it opened. In fact, the latest AixiZ acrylic lenses already have the back opened...

If you don't open the back, the black will start to melt unless your laser is of low power...

yeah thanks, i just noticed that my very old aixiz has a little hole the rest are opened up.
cheers
