Hey I heared about a new 8x Blu-Ray burner called Pioneer BDR-203BK. Here is the link (I´m sorry, it´s a german site, but I´m from Germany =) ) : www DOT gamestar DOT de/hardware/news/laufwerke/1954031/neuer_blu_ray_brenner_von_pioneer DOT html
The price would be around 250€ like 300$ , but they are not sure.
So... what diode will be in this burner? Any ideas?
I hope this are good news.
ps: my english is not the best  :P

I read somewhere that they were planning on releasing a 12x burner by fall this year, capable of 400+mw output. I wish I could remember where! I think it was sanyo that was releasing it.

These 8x burners have been out for a while now... As far as I know no one has taken one apart yet to see what kind of diode is in them, but many suspect it will be the same diode as the 6x's, just being run at a higher power or using better optics.

I guess nobody wants to dish out 250-300 dollars when they could get a 6x for a fraction of the price. People certainly dished out for the 6x back when it use to cost almost and over 300$. The 8x would have to be significantly stronger to be worth it. As mentioned before nobody really has opened one to find out what laser diode it has and its all just speculation at this point.

Perhaps someone rich could buy an 8x burner and find out for us? :) 400mW blu-ray would be super tits though.

Someone rich will have somebody else open a 12x prototype to get a 1W bluray ;)

So i'm behind the curve a bit.  :)

I have seen them Dave, but are they in fact using 8X diodes or using 6X and skewing the numbers?

It's going to cost someone at least $200 to take a chance on answering that question

Peace,
